Struggles in Washington D.C.’s Food and Beverage Industry
The Washington, D.C. food and beverage industry has become an industry of haves and have-nots. But even the rich are still having a hard time. The closure of three well-known D.C. brands — Three Star Brewing Company, Green Cap Brewery and Bad Saint Restaurant — has caused shock and grief on social media and within the industry this past week.
Restaurateurs say slower-than-usual business this summer, combined with rising costs, is making it hard for them to stay afloat. Some said they wern’t able to pay the full rent and others were reluctant to sign new long-term leases under difficult conditions.
