A fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant called Zeytuna Mediterranean has signed a lease at 2600 Virginia Ave. NW, according to Miller Walker Retail Real Estate, which worked on the deal. No more opening date was immediately available.
Opening much sooner will be a casual restaurant from Chef Bob Kinkead called Campono, a trattoria that will offer pizza, panini, salads, among other fare. The restaurant, which will also include a gelato and coffee station for eat-in or takeout, aims to open March 28, according to a post on Facebook.
Ancora, Kinkead’s more upscale Italian restaurant that opened in the Watergate about a year ago, will close for renovations March 15, but it’s not clear when the restaurant will reopen.
Kinkead said from the beginning he would close Ancora restaurant at some point for renovations in order to give it a new look — much of the decor and structure of the restaurant was left over from Rivers, the restaurant that used to operate in that space.
The Watergate restaurants are Kinkead’s first new ventures since closing Kinkead’s, the seafood restaurant that anchored 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in Foggy Bottom for more than 20 years.
